Abstract

Significant anatomical and physiological changes occur in kidneys during pregnancy. These need to be well defined to discriminate real nephrological disorders. Pregnancy may cause predisposition to some kidney diseases, and it is not surprising that women with already known kidney disorders may face challenges in this period. Management is more complicated than in general population as both maternal and fetal health should be considered. In this report, besides anatomical and physiological changes that occur in pregnancy, common nephrological disorders like hypertension, urinary tract infections, acute and chronic kidney injury are reviewed.
