Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism, Similarity Check, and Research Integrity Policy

The Journal of European Internal Medicine Professionals (JEIMP) is committed to upholding the highest standards of research integrity and publication ethics and maintains a strict policy against plagiarism and academic misconduct.

Similarity Screening

All manuscripts submitted to JEIMP are screened for textual similarity using licensed plagiarism detection software prior to the peer review process.

As a general guideline, the overall similarity index—excluding references, properly cited quotations, institutional names, and personal names—should typically remain below acceptable thresholds as determined by the Editorial Office. Similarity reports are evaluated qualitatively as well as quantitatively, and numerical similarity scores are not interpreted in isolation.

Manuscripts with excessive or inappropriate similarity may be:

  • Returned to the authors for clarification or revision, or

  • Rejected without external peer review, depending on the severity and nature of the overlap.

Forms of Academic Misconduct

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submissions are original, accurately cited, and free from all forms of academic misconduct, including but not limited to:

  • Plagiarism (verbatim or near-verbatim copying),

  • Self-plagiarism or redundant publication,

  • Inappropriate paraphrasing,

  • Use of third-party material without proper permission or attribution,

  • Data fabrication, falsification, or image manipulation.

Handling of Suspected Misconduct

Suspected cases of plagiarism or other forms of publication misconduct are handled in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and flowcharts.

Depending on the circumstances and severity of the case, actions may include:

  • Requesting explanations or revisions from the authors,

  • Rejection of the manuscript,

  • Retraction or correction of a published article,

  • Notification of authors’ affiliated institutions or funding bodies, when deemed necessary.

Author Declarations and Ethical Compliance

By submitting a manuscript to JEIMP, authors confirm that their work complies with internationally accepted ethical standards for research and publication. Authors acknowledge that JEIMP applies plagiarism screening and ethical oversight procedures consistent with COPE principles and recognized open access standards.
