Last updated: 01 January 2025

1. Publication Ethics and Editorial Principles

The Journal of European Internal Medicine Professionals (JEIMP) is committed to the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. The journal fully adheres to the principles and best practices set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) Recommendations, and the World Medical Association (WMA) Declaration of Helsinki.

All manuscripts submitted to JEIMP must comply with internationally accepted ethical standards for research, publication, and authorship. The journal applies these principles consistently to ensure transparency, credibility, and scientific integrity.

JEIMP maintains full editorial independence. Editorial decisions are based solely on the scientific merit, originality, and relevance of submitted manuscripts, without influence from the publisher, sponsoring institutions, or affiliated organizations.

2. Research Ethics and Ethical Approval

2.1 Studies Involving Human Participants

All studies involving human participants must include the following information:

  • Name of the approving Ethics Committee

  • Approval date

  • Approval reference/number

These details must be clearly stated in the Methods section and on the first or last page of the manuscript.

2.2 Retrospective Studies

For retrospective studies that are exempt from formal ethics committee approval, authors must explicitly state the exemption and cite the relevant institutional or national regulation supporting this status.

2.3 Editorial Verification

The Editorial Board reserves the right to request official documentation of ethical approval at any stage of the review or publication process.

3. Informed Consent

For all research involving human subjects, authors must confirm that written informed consent was obtained from all participants or their legal guardians.

For case reports and case series, written informed consent must be obtained from the patient or legal guardian, even if all identifying information has been anonymized.

If informed consent was not required, this must be clearly stated and justified in accordance with ethics committee decisions or applicable regulations.

4. Animal Research Policy

Studies involving animals must comply with internationally recognized standards for animal care and use. Authors are required to state that experiments were conducted in accordance with:

  • The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (National Academies Press)

  • Relevant institutional and national regulations

Ethics committee approval details must be provided. JEIMP endorses the ARRIVE Guidelines to promote transparent and reproducible animal research.

5. Compliance with Ethical Standards

All manuscripts must include a dedicated section titled “Compliance with Ethical Standards”, containing the following declarations when applicable:

  • Funding Statement: Disclosure of all sources of financial support, including grant numbers.

  • Conflict of Interest Statement: Disclosure of any financial or non-financial relationships that could influence the work.

  • Ethical Approval and Informed Consent: Confirmation of ethics committee approval and informed consent.

  • Animal Welfare Statement: Confirmation of compliance with animal research guidelines.

6. Conflict of Interest Policy

All authors are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest during submission. Conflicts may be financial or non-financial.

If no conflicts exist, the following statement should be included:

“The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.”

If conflicts exist, full disclosure is required. The corresponding author is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all disclosures.

7. Peer Review Policy

JEIMP operates a double-blind peer review system.

  • All submissions are initially screened by the Editor-in-Chief for scope, quality, and ethical compliance.

  • Manuscripts deemed suitable are reviewed by at least two independent expert reviewers.

  • Editorial decisions are based on reviewer reports and editorial assessment.

If an editor, associate editor, or editorial board member is an author on a submitted manuscript, the review process is managed by an independent editor with no involvement from the author-editor.

Appeals regarding editorial decisions may be submitted and will be evaluated according to the journal’s established procedures.

8. Plagiarism and Originality

All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software (e.g., iThenticate).

Manuscripts must be original and must not have been published or be under consideration elsewhere. Redundant publication, plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, and inappropriate image manipulation are considered serious ethical violations.

Cases of suspected misconduct are handled in accordance with COPE guidelines and flowcharts.

9. Retraction, Correction, and Editorial Actions

JEIMP follows COPE recommendations for handling post-publication issues.

The journal may issue:

  • Corrections for honest errors

  • Retractions for serious ethical breaches or unreliable findings

  • Expressions of Concern when investigations are ongoing

All such actions are taken to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

10. Editorial Independence and Institutional Relationships

JEIMP collaborates with academic and scientific institutions to promote scholarly communication. Such collaborations do not influence editorial decisions, peer review processes, or publication outcomes.

The journal maintains full editorial independence in accordance with COPE principles, ensuring that all manuscripts are evaluated solely on scientific and ethical merit.

11. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Authors must transparently disclose the use of artificial intelligence tools in manuscript preparation, including language editing or data analysis, in accordance with JEIMP’s AI Use Policy.

AI tools may not be listed as authors and must not replace critical scientific judgment.

12. Copyright and Open Access

JEIMP is an open-access journal. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, permitting unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction provided the original work is properly cited.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce any previously published material.

13. Author Responsibility and Accountability

Authors bear full responsibility for the ethical integrity, accuracy, and originality of their work. Failure to provide accurate ethical declarations or intentional misrepresentation may result in rejection, retraction, or notification of relevant institutions.

Official Partnership with the Hypertension, Dialysis and Transplantation Foundation (HDTV)

The Journal of European Internal Medicine Professionals (JEIMP) maintains a formal and collaborative partnership with the Hypertension, Dialysis and Transplantation Foundation (HDTV), a scientific foundation dedicated to advancing research, education, and clinical excellence in internal medicine, nephrology, hypertension, dialysis, and transplantation.

A significant number of the founding members of the JEIMP Editorial Board have historically contributed to HDTV’s scientific activities and governance. This longstanding academic interaction reflects a shared commitment to high-quality research, evidence-based medicine, and international scientific collaboration.

In recognition of this alignment, and following a unanimous resolution adopted by the Board of Directors of HDTV on 1 August 2025, JEIMP has been designated as the official scientific journal of the Hypertension, Dialysis and Transplantation Foundation (HDTV).

Editorial Independence and Governance

While JEIMP and HDTV share common academic values and collaborate in promoting scientific advancement, it is essential to emphasize that:

This institutional partnership does not influence editorial decisions, peer review processes, or publication outcomes. JEIMP maintains full editorial independence in accordance with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

All manuscripts submitted to JEIMP are evaluated exclusively on the basis of scientific merit, originality, methodological rigor, and ethical compliance. The peer review process is conducted independently by the journal’s editorial leadership and external reviewers, without involvement from HDTV’s governing bodies.

Editors, associate editors, or editorial board members who are affiliated with HDTV are subject to the journal’s conflict-of-interest and editorial recusal policies and are not involved in the review or decision-making process for manuscripts where a potential conflict exists.

Publishing Rights and Ownership

All publishing, branding, and intellectual property rights related to JEIMP are held by MKD Digital Publishing. The partnership with HDTV does not confer ownership, publishing control, or editorial authority over the journal’s content.

This collaborative model—grounded in shared scientific vision while preserving organizational and editorial autonomy—aims to enhance the international visibility, academic credibility, and scholarly impact of JEIMP.
