Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Updated 01.01.2025

1. General Ethical Framework

The Journal of European Internal Medicine Professionals (JEIMP) fully adheres to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) Recommendations, and the World Medical Association (WMA) Declaration of Helsinki for research involving human subjects.
All manuscripts submitted to the journal must comply with these international ethical standards and with the criteria outlined in the Ulakbim-TR Dizin Index Evaluation Guidelines.

2. Ethical Approval

  • For all studies involving human participants, authors must provide the name of the Ethics Committee, the date, and the approval number in both the Methods section and on the first or last page of the article.

  • For animal experiments, authors must state that the study was conducted according to the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (National Academies Press, 8th edition) and must provide the institutional ethics approval details.

  • Retrospective studies that are exempt from ethical committee approval should clearly state the exemption and cite the official document or regulation supporting this status.

  • The editorial board reserves the right to request a copy of the ethics approval document at any stage of the review or publication process.

3. Informed Consent

  • For studies involving human subjects, a statement confirming that written informed consent was obtained from all participants (or their legal guardians for minors or patients unable to consent) must be included.

  • For case reports, informed consent must be obtained from the patient or their guardian, even when patient identity is anonymized.

  • If informed consent was not required (e.g., retrospective data analysis approved by an ethics committee), this must be explicitly stated and justified.

4. Compliance with Ethical Standards

Authors should include a dedicated section titled “Compliance with Ethical Standards” that contains, when applicable:

  1. Funding Statement – disclose all sources of financial support (with grant numbers if applicable).

  2. Conflict of Interest Statement – specify any financial or non-financial relationships that could influence the work.

  3. Ethical Approval and Informed Consent – include ethics committee details and informed consent confirmation.

  4. Animal Welfare Statement – confirm adherence to animal care guidelines and provide ethics committee approval details.

5. Conflict of Interest and Transparency

Authors must complete and submit a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form during submission.
If no conflict exists, the statement should read:

“Conflict of Interest: The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.”

If conflicts exist, full disclosure must be made, e.g.:

“Author A received research grants from Company X. Author B serves as a consultant for Company Y. Author C declares stock ownership in Company Z.”

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring accuracy and completeness of these disclosures.

6. Editorial Independence and Publication Ethics

  • The Editorial Board, Associate Editors, and Reviewers operate independently from the publisher.

  • If an editor, associate editor, or editorial board member appears as an author in a submission, the manuscript will be handled by another independent editor without any involvement of the author-editor in the review or decision process.

  • A clear statement describing this independent editorial process will be included in the article to ensure transparency.

  • All cases of potential research misconduct (e.g., plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, image manipulation) will be handled according to COPE flowcharts.

7. Peer Review and Editorial Process

JEIMP uses a double-blind peer review process.
All submissions are first evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief for scope and compliance with ethical policies, then sent to at least two independent reviewers.
The review process, editorial decisions, and appeal procedures are described in the Peer Review Policy section of the journal website.
Manuscripts not meeting ethical or formatting criteria may be rejected at any stage.

8. Permissions and Copyright

Authors must obtain written permission to reproduce previously published figures, tables, or text.
Evidence of permission must be provided during submission.
If not provided, it will be assumed that all materials are original to the authors.

9. Plagiarism and Originality

All submissions are screened using a plagiarism detection system.
The acceptable similarity index threshold follows COPE and Ulakbim-TR Dizin Index Evaluation Guidelines standards.
Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work and proper citation of all sources.

10. Language and Editorial Standards

All manuscripts should be written in clear scientific English.
Language editing may be requested for accepted papers that do not meet linguistic quality standards.
All authors must have valid ORCID IDs and be accurately listed.

11. Responsibility and Accountability

The authors bear full responsibility for the ethical integrity of their work.
False declarations or omission of required ethical information may lead to rejection, retraction, or notification to institutional authorities.
